Smart Solar was established in 2003 to develop and market products powered by renewable energy for the home and garden.

Believing strongly in the environmental benefits of solar, it was felt that the market was at a stage where the consumer had become more environmentally aware and would be more receptive to buying solar powered products, even though costs are usually higher than conventional hard wired products. The focus is on products that deliver the promise.

The company is based just outside Oxford in the UK, with additional offices in the U.S and

Germany, and a manufacturing facility in Thailand. Smart Solar mainly sells solar products that have been developed in house with intellectual property rights being secured where applicable. Over the last 4 years the company has developed many practical ways of utilising solar technology, such as in solar powered water features, aquatics and solar lighting,

Their product range includes solar pumps, water features, lights, ventilators and chargers, as well as specialty items for the garden. They only supply direct to trade, while their products can be purchased through major retailers, catalogue and e-commerce companies worldwide.

Smart Solar offers customers an unmatched range of solar powered products using a wide variety of materials, including terracotta, ceramic, copper, slate, glass, aluminum, resin and stainless steel.

Since inception in 2003, Smart Solar has more than trebled in size. In 2005, Smart Solar received the prize for Best Start-Up in the Sage Business Awards, in partnership with the Daily Telegraph. In July 2007, Smart Solar won the prize for Export Achievement at the GIMA Awards.
